Sophia’s Story
Variety Squiggle Shape - green arch

At just six years old, Sophia faces challenges no child should ever have to endure.

Diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome – a rare, degenerative condition that causes progressive brain damage and loss of mobility – Sophia’s life expectancy is heartbreakingly short.
Grant Recipient Sophia happy in her name supportive swing
Despite this, Sophia’s parents, Alannah and Zakkary, are unwavering in their mission: to give their daughter the happiest, fullest life possible. But with the family unable to work their options were limited.

Thanks to your fundraising and the support of Variety Queensland, Sophia now has access to a specially designed swing with a harness – safe, sensory-rich, and tailored to her needs.

This isn’t just playtime. For Sophia, it supports her physical development, stimulates her senses, and gives her moments of pure happiness in the fresh air.

Alannah and Zakkary are deeply grateful. Thank you!
