Jack's Story

With support from Variety, Jack became the first bilateral patient to receive 3D-printed ears — today he’s a confident, happy boy who loves sport and life.

Jack was born with Bilateral Microtia Atresia, a rare condition affecting 1 in 100,000 babies, where both ears are affected by microtia (small malformed outer ear) and atresia (absence or closure of the ear canal).

The condition meant that at just five years old, following the Robertson family's extensive fundraising and a significant grant from Variety, Jack and his family were able to travel to Los Angeles to become the first bilateral patient to receive two 3D-printed Lewin Ears.
“Jack has gone through school without kids even noticing his ears, without any bullying or stares - he hasn’t felt any different to any other kids. It wasn’t too long ago when he looked at both of us and said... “thanks Mum and Dad for getting my ears done.” Something we will never forget.

Jack is now an outgoing, happy, funny, smart and confident boy who loves playing baseball, soccer and going to the footy.

Thank you to the Variety family for supporting Jack and our family on his journey.”
