Variety’s Big Electric Adventure Returns to Perth

In a first for the much-loved children’s charity, Variety embarked on a brand-new motoring event called Variety’s Big Electric Vehicle Adventure, which embraced the use of electric vehicles (EV).

In a celebration of the charity’s impact across regional towns in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and South Australia, the EV adventure put the regional charging network to the test. Two donated Teslas covered more than 10,000 kilometres of Australia in less than two weeks.

Speaking from the homecoming event at Forrest Place, on Friday 23 August, Variety CEO Chris Chatterton, said it was an incredible cross-country trek taking in some of the most remote parts of Australia:

“We had so much support from the EV community everywhere we went. It was amazing to visit our Variety neighbours in South Australia and the Northern Territory and acknowledge just how many kids Variety helps in every state.

“Last year right across Australia we helped more than 181,000 children to communicate, get to school, get around and live life to the fullest.

“This trip we tested some of new fast charging network and covered about two thirds of Australia.

“We would love to build on our great tradition of motoring fundraisers to offer something for EV enthusiasts in the future.

“I’m so grateful to all of our sponsors Horizon, Chargefox and Tesla as well as Gateway Printing and the team at Variety for their amazing support.

“This trip was made possible by the Tesla Owners Club of WA and Secretary Harald Murphy, who was indispensable in navigating the unforeseen hiccups that can arise on EV distance drives.” He said.
