Variety Heart Scholarships: Support for Families this School Year

29/01/2025 by waadmin

Parents of talented and gifted kids can apply for up to $4000 in funding for extracurricular activities through the Variety Heart Scholarships to pay for this year’s tuition, travel, fees sports equipment or uniform items for activities in the arts, sport, or academics.

Designed to support children to follow their dreams and fulfil their potential, applications close 14 February and are available to benefit children aged 6-17 who live with either disability, disadvantage, or a long-term health condition.

Variety WA has adjusted the application criteria in response to the challenges facing families in the current economic climate, increasing the household income test to $127,000 or below.

Variety WA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Chatterton said people are struggling with the cost of living and high interest rates: “Back to school costs cause extra financial strain on families and extracurricular activities for high achieving youngsters can add additional pressure.

“Last year Variety had a significant increase in requests for assistance under disadvantage provisions, so we understand that families with additional care needs or on a single income have been finding it tough.

“A total of 48 deserving young Western Australians last year received $147,750 worth of scholarships to help them overcome sickness, disadvantage or disability and achieve excellence in fields of the arts, sport or education. This year we would love to help even more children achieve their dreams.” He said.

The Variety Heart Scholarships are made possible by the generous support of the Grahame Mapp Foundation, the Bendat Family Foundation, the Whately Foundation and our generous fundraising community.
