The Variety WA Christmas Appeal is underway for 2024, which was a year of unprecedented financial pressure for families experiencing disadvantage or caring for a child with chronic illness or disability.
People are asked to show their support by supporting a child to attend the Variety Christmas Party this year which takes place on Saturday 30 November at Outback Splash. The party includes sensory play activities, mazes and Australian animal experiences, delicious food, a visit from Santa and a gift for every child.
Variety WA Chief Executive Officer, Chris Chatterton said they have 1000 places for children to attend the much-loved event: “The Variety Christmas party is an unforgettable day of fun where WA children living with serious illness, disadvantage or disability get the chance to simply enjoy being a kid, in an inclusive setting.
“For many families with a child who has a disability they face significant additional costs of medical care, therapies, and specialised equipment, making it even harder to provide the fun extras that can help make Christmas magical.
“Finding inclusive events that accommodate their child’s needs can sometimes be difficult, leaving families feeling isolated at a time when they should be celebrating togetherness.
“With your support, Variety WA kids and their families will enjoy a fun filled Christmas.” He said.
Last year Alex (9) and her family attended the Variety WA Christmas party, her mother, Amy said it was great to connect with other families in the same position for something positive:
“The Christmas party last year was phenomenal, it was accessible, easy for Alex to navigate, surrounded by likeness in abilities, all the activities were inclusive and so fun!
“Events like this take away so many of the worries we have as a family. Accessibility, financial strain, or whether Alex can even participate—those concerns disappear.
“At the Christmas party, it’s a celebration, the kids are excited, and it’s full of joy. It’s such a contrast to the usual places we meet other families.” She said.
Give the gift of joy this Christmas by sponsoring a child and their family to attend the Variety WA Kids Christmas Party. All donations more than $2 are tax deductible. The event is made possible with the generous support of the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation.
