Brenton, like so many was first introduced to Variety via the Bash in 1994. This has led to an unwavering commitment to Variety across all aspects of our organisation that has continued for the past 30 years.
Brenton has participated in 14 Bashes as an entrant, official and from 2015 – 2017 he Chaired the event. Under his leadership, the Bash achieved record results in fundraising and over his 3 year reign $7.3M net was raised which is quite remarkable. He attended dozens of fundraisers setting the example for ‘his’ Bash entrants and they admired him fondly as a consequence.
As a boy from Wuddina on the West Coast he loves the outback and he enjoyed 7 4WD Adventures many with his adored wife Jude and in 2023 he filled the role of RAD 1. ‘Rambo’ as he is more often known, joined his 3rd Variety motoring event and has completed 2 Moto Runs.
In 2021 he was instrumental in the Aussie Muscle Car Run joining the Variety motoring stable and he worked tirelessly from the front as the inaugural Chair to ensure the transition was seamless and it would succeed. He again, set the bar high and the new entrants responded with great enthusiasm and in the two year under his leadership the event raised a staggering $1.1M and he took the run to the holy grail of muscle cars – Bathurst.
This drive and passion for Variety underlines Rambo’s genuine care and compassion for children in need in SA.
As an astute, respected and successful businessman with Ramsey Brothers, Brenton’s next calling was the Board and served Variety South Australia as it’s Chief Barker in 2020 / 21 guiding our ship through the COVID crisis and the most challenging times in our history.
His family business Ramsey Brothers has been a sponsor of the Bash, 4wd Adventure and Ball for over 10 years and were the first corporate supporters of the AMCR since it’s inception.
Rambo was acknowledged with a From the Heart award in 2017 which recognized his extraordinary service within Variety SA and in the same year was recognized internationally with a prestigious Variety Presidential Citation. In 2020 his extraordinary commitment to the Bash was acknowledged with the Doug Lehmann award.
In 2024, he was recognized by the AMCR community with its highest honour – Legend status – just the second in the events history.
Brenton’s service to Variety is endless as he continues to fill vital motoring roles and is consulted often for his sage advice.
