2,000 Heroes in Action at the Variety Kids’ Party!
More than 1,300 children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, together with more than 600 carers and volunteers attended SA’s eighth annual Variety Kids’ Surprise Party today, in the warmth of the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Special schools and classes from around the state gathered for a fun filled day with face painters, airbrush tattooists, balloon animals, SANFL handball activities, photo booths and liberty swings for children in wheelchairs. Meanwhile, kids’ were singing and dancing along to interactive musical performances live on stage from SeaStar Rock and COOL 4 KIDS.
Thanks to the Variety Showdown Shield partnership, the Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club mascots were a huge hit with the kids, alongside the Variety Bear, Mr Fruchoc and a few other characters in attendance.
For many of the children attending, this is one of only a few outings they are able to have each year due to their special needs or family circumstances making a regular day out nearly impossible.
Special thanks to the Variety in Action Committee and all of the other wonderful volunteers, to SEM Group of Companies for the traffic management, St John Ambulance | SA, a fantastic group from Anglicare SA who took care of the quiet room, Torrens Parade Ground for the bus parking, and to the Adelaide Convention Centre for donating the venue. The kids had a ball!
