How does Variety use the funds?
Arav was born with congenital differences to his limbs, including only one toe on his right foot. To date he has undergone multiple surgeries to improve his upper and lower limb function. At 18 months, Arav underwent a right Syme (ankle disarticulation) procedure to enable him to be fitted with a prosthesis to improve his mobility. Arav had a basic prosthesis for mobility at school but it didn’t have much flexibility for him to be able to run in the playground, and it was becoming very sore for him to wear as he grew. He was starting to develop a limp due to being in so much pain.
Thanks to Variety’s incredible supporters, Arav received a new prosthetic leg which was simply out of reach for his family due to the cost. Arav is now able to walk and run better, faster and more comfortably, be included more at school in the playground and in sporting programs. He and his family are extremely grateful!!
