NRL Cowboys House is a boarding facility for Indigenous students from some of Australia’s most remote and geographically disadvantaged communities, who come to Townsville to attend partner schools. But Cowboys House provides so much more than accommodation, truly offering a holistic wraparound model of care, supported by an incredible team of dedicated staff.

When the students come here, they often have some catching up to do, and Cowboys House supports students to excel in every way, through academic outcomes, health and wellbeing, practical needs such as MyGov accounts and driver’s licenses, cultural activities, work readiness – and so much more.

In 2019, we piloted the Variety Learning Centre at NRL Cowboys House Girls Campus in Townsville. For 30 girls, from 13 remote Indigenous communities, leaving home to start high school hundreds of kilometres away, the experience was life-changing. Variety continues to partner with NRL Cowboys House to give more Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander kids the opportunity to reach their full potential through the Variety Learning Centre, to help these girls succeed at school and after they graduate.
