Variety’s Liberty Swing spreads joy at Children’s Christmas Party
We recently took part in the Children’s Christmas Party in Brisbane, which was attended by over 2,500 kids who are sick, disadvantaged or living with a disability.
It was a magical day, with rides, shows, games, yummy food, face painting, animal encounters, photos with Santa, and many other activities, all completely free of charge. Most of these families don’t ever get to have down time as they support kids with complex needs, running to and from appointments, and often missing out on normal, everyday activities. It’s just so special to see them treated like VIPs for one day of the year.
The Variety Kids Choir performed three numbers, even changing the lyrics of Jingle Bell Rock to Variety Rocks!
A highlight of the day is that every child gets a high-quality gift to call their own – with leftover gifts going to Variety to distribute to kids in need.
But the icing on the cake is always the Variety Liberty Swing. The Liberty Swing is an Australian innovation that allows kids in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of having a swing. The swing is fully lockable and allows a maximum swing height – that is, really swinging, not just rocking back and forth.
All day long, kids were lined up to ride the Variety Liberty Swing. The smiles on their faces – some of whom have never experienced this kind of movement before – says it all. We invite you to watch this very special video:
