Grant helps regional swim club to stay in the water
A We Join Community Grant means fun and fitness for the passionate group of 100 swimmers known as the Glen Innes Redfins.
The Glen Innes Redfins Swim Club in regional NSW received a We Join Community Grant when the Variety 4WD Adventure passed through town in March 2023.
Natasha Ward from the club shares with us what a difference the $7000 grant has made to the passionate group of swim enthusiasts.
“The Glen Innes Redfins is a club of 100 members ranging in ages from 5 to 45. The club competes regularly on a Monday night at club events with many of our swimmers also heading out of town to participate in surrounding meets on weekends.”
“We have a very passionate group of swimmers who strive to make it to state swimming each year and beyond. This can be so hard to achieve as we have a pool that is only open from September to March each year.”
“These swimmers are an amazing bunch of humans who endure swimming in freezing conditions. Sometimes swimming in minus degrees weather – all to get a jump start on the season.”
“We heard about the Variety grant through a local resident who always takes part in the Variety Bash. I have always been a supporter of Variety so I decided to apply.”
“The $7000 grant helped us to purchase fitness equipment and underwater communication devices. This has enabled us to provide 1-1 coaching in the water which has meant quicker improvement with real time corrections. A range of programs have also been introduced to improve swim fitness.”
“Everyone who attends training has benefited. We have had many new swimmers join training and they are happy with the vast improvement that has happened so far. There have been significant improvements for the families that have Nationals in their sights as well.”
